Hotel California's colonial-style architecture, white stucco walls with red accents on the trim match the terracotta-tile floors give the hotel a Spanish flare most featured in the open-air common areas overlooking the pool, Jacuzzi, restaurant and bar.
Halfway between Quepos and downtown Manuel Antonio, Hotel California is in a good spot for reaching activities, restaurants and attractions in either destination. A bus stop on the main road close to the hotel offers cheap transportation to both parts of town and everything in between.
Hotel California has 12 deluxe ocean view rooms, $120 in the wet season (May- Nov.) with breakfast, featuring views of the Pacific coastline while the 15 standard garden rooms, $110 in the wet season (May- Nov.), look out over the jungle that surrounds the hotel.
Standard rooms come equipped with large patios and chairs while the interiors are furnished with tile floors and tiki-style décor. Rainforest scenes depicted on the wooden bed frames match the art on the walls. Amenities include A/C, minifridge, cable, safety deposit box and coffee maker with Wi-Fi available in the hotel lobby and common area.
While Hotel California's menu isn't something to write home about (note: ignore the tortilla wrapped hotdog pictured on the menu because it's not actually listed) you'll find a couple of dishes incorporating the best of local flavors like the macadamia grilled mahi-mahi, $12, sautéed in a butter garlic sauce with macadamia nut flakes, grilled veggies and mashed potatoes.
