Stop by the Falafel Cafe at the Samara Natural Center for healthy grab-and-go sandwiches and salads loaded with spiced goodness and a trace of cultural fusion.read more close
Israel-native Elias Nassif and his Italian business partner David Rubini know just what active beachgoers of Samara need to fuel their fervor. Five healthy choices, ready in less than four minutes, nearly fly out of the wooden window, perfect to enjoy at the small tables in front, or take away for picnics on the beach.
Made-to-order sandwiches come with creamy hummus, tahini and local fresh tomato, cucumber and onion, wrapped in homemade pita bread, baked fresh daily. Three pita sandwich options include: the Falafel, $4.50, smashed garbanzos seasoned with parsley, cumin, onion, sesame oil, salt and pepper; the Samareño, $5, sliced chicken breast and lettuce; and the Kebab, $5, beef shaved fresh from the Kebab machine — available Wednesdays and Saturdays. Any of the original sandwiches can be 'unwrapped' and served as a salad.
Top your sandwich with homemade sauces; spicy chipotle with brown cane sugar, tangy mango, avocado and chili, and cool yogurt tzatziki with lime, parsley, cucumber, and garlic.
Nutritious seasonal pressed juices from fresh pineapple, cucumber and parsley wash down the light lunch with sweetness. Just a word from the wise: a sandwich-juice combo, $6, is the ultimate way to approach a Falafel Cafe meal.
Order at the counter, take a seat (or don't), watch them cut and smear the goods, scarf down the juice and sandwich, and continue on your way.
Spunky and kind of hipster, David and Elias are awesome and totally excited to enlighten your world with their delicious food.
