It may look somewhat shabby from the outside, but the meals coming out of the tiny kitchen at Restaurant Hotel Puerto Carrillo have big, bold flavors. The breakfast omelet, $8, local farm eggs, ham, tomato, mozzarella cheese and white onion, and griddled bread is perfect for filling your belly before a day down at the beach.

Then, you can take a break from sunbathing in Playa Carrillo's paradise and enjoy a healthy lunch, rice and shrimp, $11, seasoned with onions, red and green bell peppers, served with a salad of lettuce, cucumber, carrot, palm hearts, avocado and tomato all from the Carrillo weekly farmers market.  Restaurant Hotel Puerto Carrillo makes the best drinks in town, too – and they're not even alcoholic – so grab a frozen locally grown watermelon drink, $2, before you revisit the ocean.

After a whole day of swimming and tanning at the shore, and once the sun's already set, wrap the coastal day with a pan-seared fish filet, $11, in butter, garlic and parsley sauce; or a juicy steak, $16, with sweet cream, red wine, butter and black pepper sauce, both alongside a fresh farmers market mixed salad.
