Hotel Playa Bejuco's cobblestone staircases wrap around the auburn walls among the two-story hotel. Rooms overlook the pool out toward the beach that's about a block away up the palm-lined dirt road. Bejuco beach is a long-sandy stretch of burnt-toffee sand that slowly reclines into the ocean, fit for surfing or swimming.read more close
Terracotta-tiled floors weave around the pool leading guests among the palm gardens at Hotel Playa Bejuco's 20 rooms. A double, $88, comes with two queen-size beds, Wi-Fi, cable, a mini-fridge, A/C, a tub and shower. Each room has a patio with a table and chairs that look out on the pool in the center of the hotel. For families, a few of the second-story rooms offer the more space with high ceilings and lofts that include extra beds.
Lunch is served on the patio beside the pools while dinner is served at the second-story restaurant above the reception. Hotel Playa Bejuco's restaurant includes all the usual staples of Costa Rican restaurants including pork, chicken, steak and seafood. While most of the menu is hit and miss, they make a variety of sauces for the pan-fried chicken including a mustard-cream sauce and yellow curry. The grilled vegetables are surprisingly tasty as are the salads – like the heart of palm salad – but the asparagus cream soup comes out in a thick glob that's probably poured directly from the can.
