Mariposario Montezuma Gardens B&B
You'll dream of butterflies and flowers and all things happy when you sleep at the Mariposario Montezuma Gardens B&B. It sounds so whimsical, but with Montezuma's only butterfly garden as the B&B's backyard, it's actually possible.read more close
Like the wings of a butterfly emerged from its cocoon, an abandoned home became the Mariposario Montezuma Gardens B&B's friendly accommodations — now drawing eyes instantly to its bright orange color contrasted against the jungle trees and plants all around.
The entire B&B is an extended butterfly metaphor; inside the two-story building, four total rooms are each painted in a different color named after a local species of butterfly.
The purple Caligo room, $65 in low season (May-Nov.) including breakfast, features a double bed, A/C, satellite TV, private bathroom, hot water and small balcony overlooking the adjacent butterfly garden and Pacific Ocean at a distance. Other colored rooms include: orange dryadula, blue morpho and green dido.
Each morning (7a.m. to 9 a.m.), flutter downstairs from your room and eat breakfast on the wraparound porch extending its wooden tables and chairs almost directly into the surrounding tropical dry forest.
All morning meals include coffee, a bowl of seasonal fruit and two eggs, along with a daily special including yucca-root hash browns with basil and red onion, French toast with cane sugar syrup, or gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans) and plantains.
Services & amenities
The B&B downstairs kitchen appliances and utensils are open for you to use starting after 2 p.m., and you can grab water/coffee/tea at any time.
You also have all-day unlimited access to the butterfly gardens out back; so take advantage and visit at different times to see new perspectives.
Along with butterfly tours, the North American-owned B&B team can help you organize transportation and activities around Montezuma, give restaurant advice and teach you just about anything else you may want to know about the area.
