It's not uncommon to catch blue morpho butterflies fluttering and hummingbirds darting past while sitting on the patio at Finca Valverde; you might even wake up to the sound of a passing troupe of howler monkeys. More than 20 rustic cottage rooms hide within the undergrowth of a secondary rainforest grown over the old Valverde family farm.read more close
Yet Finca Valverde's only a couple blocks from downtown Santa Elena, across the street from the mall and the bus station. It's less than five minutes from the Serpentarium, the Frog Pond, the Orchid Garden, coffee shops and all downtown's restaurants and bars.
Immersed in rainforest vegetation, Finca Valverde's cottages (16 standard and four superior rooms) retain a warm country feel. Standard cottages, $104, have mahogany-stained wood paneling along the walls and the floors complimented by high ceilings giving the room depth despite its small stature. Still, there's space enough for a queen-size bed and a desk built underneath the staircase leading to the loft (where there's another twin bed). Amenities in the standard rooms include hot water, Wi-Fi (in some rooms), a phone, and bathtub. Breakfast is included in the room rate.
