Reality TV Comes to Costa Rica
Summer is a great time for a Costa Rica vacation, but if your schedule or wallet won't cooperate, then grab the remote. Several reality shows have touched down in the land of pura vida, bringing the natural beauties of Costa Rica to the small screen. Programs like Temptation Island, I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, The Bachelor, The Amazing Race and, most recently, Love in the Wild have been partially or entirely filmed in Costa Rica.
The country's active volcanoes and cool cloud forests lay contrast to lush rainforest and tropical beaches. Exotic scenery and incredible wildlife are ubiquitous, creating the perfect backdrop for physical challenges, adventure activities, and plenty of romantic escapades.
I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here and The Amazing Race focus mostly on Costa Rica's extreme terrain and physical challenges, while The Bachelor and Love in the Wild mix a tempting cocktail of passion and adrenaline.
Watch these programs and you'll visit some of Costa Rica's most popular attractions and destinations. Travel to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui's secluded rainforest with the cast of I'm a Celebrity, and spend a month trying to "survive" in the jungle; hop aboard The Amazing Race 8 and visit a working coffee plantation; or head to La Fortuna with Brad Womack and his dates, and enjoy the five-star luxuries of Arenal Springs Resort.
Couples put their love to the ultimate test on NBC's Love in the Wild, which is currently airing. Filmed in Arenal, the dating exploits include a crocodile safari, ancient cave explorations, and rappelling 200-foot waterfalls in a rainforest canyon. In addition to spectacular landscapes and adrenaline-pumping activities, you'll be treated to the requisite reality TV staples like plot twists, annoying characters, scheming and treachery.
