Who can Travel to Costa Rica?

Effective November 1, 2020, Costa Rica lifted all travel restrictions put in place about seven months ago in response to the Corona virus pandemic. Citizens or legal permanent residents of all countries in the world will be eligible to enter Costa Rica.

Where to Fly From?

You can travel to Costa Rica on direct or nonstop flights departing from any location.

What are the New travel Requirements?

In addition to the standard requirements (you can find them here), you will need to have prior to your trip:

  • Proof of travel medical insurance issued and purchased from either an insurance company that has coverage in Costa Rica or an insurance company incorporated in Costa Rica and registered at the Costa Rican government State Insurance Office ("Superintendencia General de Seguros" also known by its acronym SUGESE)). The insurance must cover the disease COVID-19 with at least $50,000USD in medical expenses and $2,000 in lodging coverage in case of unexpected quarantine.  You can get a quote and buy the insurance here:  https://cotiza.ins-cr.com/frmDatosIncluir.aspx?P=431

  • Submit an online health questionnaire called "Health Pass" conducted by the Costa Rican Social Medicine Administration (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS)). You must fill out the form contain in this location https://salud.go.cr. It will request you to provide your personal, flight information including your home address and health background. It will also ask you to input your insurance certificate number.  Once you have submitted the form the system will generate a QR code for you to download and keep in your cell phone or print to show to your airline or airport authorities.

At the Airport …

As soon as you step out of the aircraft you will be required to:

  • Wear a face mask (surgical, N95 or cloth) inside the airport

  • Walk over sanitizing shoe mats

  • Pass through health screening/body-temperature checkpoints

  • Keep physical distance – at least 6 feet (2 meters) – between yourself and other people who are not traveling with you

Out of the Airport …

Once you are out of the airport …

You are not required to quarantine or to abide by driving restriction schedules so explore the wilds of Costa Rica with the following in mind:

  • Keep physical distance – at least 6 feet (2 meters) – between yourself and other people who are not traveling with you

  • Wear a face mask (surgical, n95 or cloth) or shield when you are indoors so you comply with the health requirements inside the country.

All tourism related business will have either soap and water, rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, or hand sanitizer available for you to use.

Your guide, driver, waiter, waitress, hotel staff will also be required to wear a face mask or shield.
