The instructors, trained for rescue, have spent their lives surfing in and around Dominical so that you can relax knowing you're in good hands even if it's your first lesson. Besides their skill in the water, the instructors have a wealth of information about each of the area's waterfalls and beaches as well as the best local surf spots.

Dominical Waverider features 7-day surf camp packages that include everything from accommodation and food to transportation. But they also do one- and two-hour lessons; just make sure to book in advance because lesson times will be based on the tides.

Beginner lessons

Dominical Waverider holds the beginner lessons on the beach in Dominical. While surfing high tide can pose a challenge to even experienced surfers, low tide is great for learning the basics. Dominical Waverider takes beginners out into the whitewater to learn how to dive under and the waves, paddle, sit and pop up on the board.

Intermediate lessons

Intermediate riders able to paddle out past the whitewater head to Dominicalito Beach. Though the beach is too rocky for beginners, it is great for surfers looking to catch a lot of waves without getting exhausted paddling out. Lessons take place on the southern end of the beach over the beach breaks (though there is a point break during high tide for more experienced riders).

Once the instructor gets a handle on your abilities, he or she'll start offering advice for improvements. More refined than the beginner lessons, the surf instructors will help improve your paddling and riding. Out in the green, you'll learn to read and catch waves. You'll learn when and how hard to paddle for a wave. While on the waves, they'll ride alongside you watching your stand-up position to help you make adjustments and perfect turning.
