Arrive at Pranamar welcomed first with a pure fruit Shiva's Nectar smoothie, blended with tamarind, ginger and lemon. Register your heart, mind and soul to the rejuvenating resort, built entirely around a central force of energy radiating from a free-form saltwater pool. The suave pool flows from the base of the restaurant, past bamboo/tamarind/teak/wild almond villas, next to the yoga studio, and cascades to a lower level facing the Pacific Ocean.
Breathe sweet sea air as it passes under the awnings of mango, papaya and banana trees, birds of paradise, ginger lilies, bamboo, heliconia, hibiscus, night blooming jasmine and ylang-ylang. Feel the freshness wisp as you cross from reception to your room, walking on water across pebble stepping stones at the edge of the pool, splashing its renewal around your travel-worn feet.
Pranamar's 10 extravagant villas and bungalows - two ocean front villas, four poolside villas, one oceanfront bungalow, two garden bungalows, one seven-guest Kula House - delicately balance the use of seaside space with a sense of intimacy you seek during a beachfront vacation.
A poolside villa, $340 for two guests (July-Aug.) including breakfast at Buddha Eyes Restaurant and one yoga class per day, has two floors connected with a local hardwood staircase and two entrances: one accessed through a garden pathway, and the other one directly from the pool. The poolside villa features:
- Front garden patio with hammock, two wicker chairs
- Foyer with a leather couch, coffee table, minifridge, telephone
- Two bedrooms with king beds, A/C, fans, screen doors, Wi-Fi and safety deposit boxes
- Two bathrooms
- Downstairs outdoor bathroom with granite stone tub, two pool towels, two beach sarongs
- Upstairs bathroom with beige marble shower and a large vanity
- View of hotel's tropical gardens, with a slivered glimpse at the ocean from the upstairs balcony
Guests of Pranamar are invited to delight in one complimentary 75-minute class per day (times vary) in the Yoga Shala found at the northern side of the pool. Experienced yogis provide classes that incorporate holistic yoga and Sanskrit chants with sounds of the ocean. Classes are also open to the public for $12.
On the resort's beachfront, the Gaia Body Work and Wellness Spa pampers with massage therapy designed to focus on specific body areas. Treatments vary in intensity and lengths: anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. The spa uses 100 percent natural, local and organic products for its custom cares.
