Cafe Cabure

Cafe Cabure

Destination: Monteverde

Cafe Cabure is an Argentinean restaurant and chocolate shop in the mountains of Monteverde. Combining the culinary traditions of her home country with her love of chocolate, Owner Susana Salas brings the sweet, spicy and savory flavors of Argentinean cuisine and chocolate making to Monteverde.

Susanna first learned to love chocolate as a child in Argentina and today, she and her husband Bob make their own chocolate from bean to bar, in their laboratory right beside the kitchen's restaurant. Using the chocolate, she makes her own desserts including chocolate truffles, turtles, brownies and mousse. She even uses the chocolate in her dinner menu.

Susanna's roasted chicken mole blends spices from a local Mexican family's farm with her own homemade chocolate to make a spicy, unique sauce. The chicken comes with jasmine rice, fresh local vegetables and a corn puree that helps neutralize the heat of the mole sauce.

Ambiance

Located on the second story of a building just a block from the Monteverde Cheese Factory, Cafe Cabure has a patio with sun set views that looks out toward the Nicoya Gulf. Dark, chestnut tables and a quiet, relaxed ambiance make the restaurant a nice place to visit for dinner, or an afternoon coffee.

Service

Chances are good, you'll meet Susanna herself who is happy to tell you more about the artisan chocolates in the display case, or how she was inspired to make the lunch and dinner menu. The rest of the staff is equally friendly and helpful.
