Pan Frances - Costa Rican-Style French Bread

1 1/2 cups water
1 1/3 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 lb unbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 tablespoons butter
Soften yeast in 1/2 cup water in a large mixing bowl. Add sugar. Stir in 1/2 cup water until smooth. Add all purpose flour. Let stand at room temperature for two hours.
Add 1/2 cup water and salt. Let stand at room temperature until it doubles its original size. Bake at 446° F (230° C) for 30 minutes. Flip bread and bake for 25 minutes. Brush with melted butter in the oven and bake for another five minutes.
