A 7.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake strikes off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica on Wednesday, September 15 at 8:45 am, the USGS reports.  

The quake's epicenter was nearly 38 miles (60 km) south of the city of Liberia. The quake was about 25.4 miles (40.8 km) below the Earth's surface, and its epicenter was just off the country's southwestern coast near Samara Beach.

A tsunami warning was in effect for the Pacific Coast of Central and South America due to the magnitude of the eathquake.  However, it is unknown if a tsunami was generated.

According to local media, there have been immediate reports of fallen objects at homes and supermarkets.
