53 New Species Discovered in Costa Rica

2011 reports show that 53 new species were discovered in Costa Rica this past year. The country's diverse ecosystems and protected lands host 500,000 total species, a testament to the nation's rich biodiversity. Scientists discovered 26 new species of insects, 19 new species of plants and eight fungi.
