Costa Rica World's 31st Most Peaceful Country

The Global Peace Index ranked Costa Rica as the world's 31st most peaceful country – within the planet's top 20%. Costa Rica placed first for Central America and second within Central and South America. In part, the nation's ranking is due to very good scores for measures of militarization, due to the absence of armed forces. The nation's stable government, minimal potential for terrorist acts, and low level of organized conflict also contributed to its high ranking.
