Travelers Info

Planning is a key component of a stress-free vacation. Before you even step foot in the airport, there's plenty of research to be done: do you need a visa to visit Costa Rica? Are there special items you should pack? And what is required if you're planning a wedding in Costa Rica?  For each of these questions and more, we have the answer. So, somewhere between booking your flight and packing your bags, spend some time reading over our helpful travel information.

Insider's Tip:

Despite its airport code (SJO), Juan Santamaria International Airport is not located in the capital, San Jose, but in the city of Alajuela. This small city is home to lots of lodging, including small hotels and quaint inns, and is the perfect spot to spend your first night in Costa Rica. Larger hotels and urban amenities can be found in San Jose, just 20 minutes east of the airport. In addition to downtown San Jose, the suburbs of Escazu and San Pedro are very popular destinations for arriving and departing travelers.
