The South Pacific surf breaks begin in Dominical and go south to the Panama border, including the Osa Peninsula and Golfo Dulce.

 South Pacific Surf Breaks:

•    Dominical
•    Drake's Bay
•    Cabo Matapalo
•    Pavones
•    Punta Banco

Playa Dominical:
Beautiful tropical setting with good accommodations, plus good surfing on some right and left beach breaks. South of Dominical are several beaches well known for surfing too.  Playa Dominicalito, Playa Ventanas and more. Read more about Dominical...

Drakes Bay:
Mostly river mouth breaks here.  If the swells are up, you'll get long, long rides on powerful waves. Boca del Rio Sierpe: more of the same. Adjacent to Corcovado National Park.

Matapalo:

Excellent surfing, excellent waves. One of the best right point breaks in Costa Rica.  You can arrive here from Pavones or Golfito via boat, or drive from Puerto Jimenez.  Day trips are available from Pavones, just 4.5 miles away across the Sweet Gulf.

Pavones
:
One of the best and longest left point breaks in the world. Believe it. Excellent surfing on beautifully shaped, fast waves. This is one of the top surf spots in Costa Rica.  Just south of Pavones is a beach break that breaks left and  a short boat ride away is Matapalo.

It's an eight-hour drive from San Jose, and offers mostly basic accommodations, but worth it.  One new five star hotel recently opened, the Castillo de Pavones,  where if you are willing to share a room with 4-6 of your friends, the cost pans out to be about the same as if you had your own room at one of the more basic lodges in town.  Read more about Pavones...

Punta Burica:
For you middle-of-nowhere surfing fans. These are reef breaks in uncharted water, accessible only by boat. Nearby Pavones and Punto Barco offer accomodations and chartered boats.
