Services:
Cell Phone
Cell phone service is generally good in Cahuita – on the beach and throughout the national park, reception is very strong, but reception can get spotty in the town’s more secluded locations.
Public Phones
Cahuita has several public phones lining its main road, beachfront streets and entrance road. Note that they are operated by phone card, not coins; purchase a phone card in any pharmacy or grocery store in Costa Rica.
Internet
Several mid-range hotels offer free Internet or WiFi access. There are many Internet cafes in Cahuita, which offer both WiFi service and computers with internet access; typical rates are $1-$2 per hour.
Post Office
Located next to the police station, right where Playa Negra meets downtown Cahuita. It offers both national and international mail services. Open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Facilities:
Banks
Cahuita’s only bank, Banco de Costa Rica, is located at the entrance to town, in a small shopping center. This location is also home to the only ATM in the village – it accepts debit cards that belong to the Visa or Plus networks.
Gas Stations
There is no gas station in Cahuita. The closest place to fill up is a few miles south, near the turnoff to Bribri.
Police Station
Located on the outskirts of Cahuita. (Emergencies: 911; Non-emergencies: 2755-0217)
Medical Facilities
For minor injuries and general maladies, all pharmacies in Costa Rica are required to employ an in-house pharmacist/doctor, who is able to treat minor problems and prescribe certain medications. Cahuita has several pharmacies but no major medical facilities. For emergency medical services, always dial 911.
