shopping plazaTamarindo has many of the amenities of a larger city. Supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, shops, a post office, internet cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance of each other.

Travelers should note that there are no gas stations in Tamarindo. The closest station is a 15-minute drive away, in the town of El Llano. Drivers can buy gasoline in plastic containers from San Martin hardware store (just as you enter town) for $6 per gallon.



Services:

Public Phones
Pay phones are scattered throughout Tamarindo. Pre-paid phone cards can be purchased in local pharmacies or supermarkets for calls abroad. Many internet cafes provide less expensive internet phone service for international calls.

Cell Phones
Cell phone reception with local service is hit or miss around Tamarindo. Travelers can rent a cell phone for use on their trip.
 
Internet
Internet cafes are abundant and many have high-speed (ADSL) or wireless connections. The cost is between $1 and $2 per hour. Most hotels and hostels offer internet access in their lobbies and some have free in-room Wi-Fi.

 

Facilities:

Tourist Info Center
There is no official tourist information center in Tamarindo. However, many tour operators and souvenir shops offer visitors maps and information on the area’s activities and tours.
 
Post Office
Located on the top floor of Plaza Conchal. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- noon and 1-4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
 
Banks
There are many banks in Tamarindo, including Scotia Bank, Banco de Costa Rica and Banco Cuscatlan. Each has a 24-hour ATM machine that dispenses both dollars and Costa Rican colones.Tamarindo Shop


Medical Clinics:

Pacific Emergencies
Located next to Tamarindo Pharmacy, this private clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and has 24-hour emergency service. The clinic has bilingual doctors.
