Without a doubt, Cahuita’s Caribbean locale and calypso vibes inspire its cuisine and laid-back nightlife – meats and fish marinate in coconut milk, breadfruit garnishes special dishes and fresh fruits and vegetables take center stage.
Restaurants:
Cafe el Parquecito
Delicious scents envelop this small cafe, which serves up strong coffee and exquisite breakfasts at any hour. The house specialty is crepes any way you like them – slathered with Nutella, wrapped around fresh fruit, or plain with several optional toppings.
Casa Creole
Offering eclectic and spicy dishes, this small restaurant is a decided favorite for Cahuita’s visitors and residents. Lobster in a corn and vanilla ginger sauce, spiced shrimp and meat skewers and one-of-a-kind appetizers are just a sampling of the restaurant’s unique offerings. Open only for dinner.
Cha Cha Cha
Located in downtown Cahuita, Cha Cha Cha serves up world fusion cuisine, including delicately prepared seafood dishes, Indian specialties, Brazilian meats and Thai cuisine. Many consider this to be one of Costa Rica’s best dining experiences.
Miss Edith
This beachfront landmark serves flavorful Caribbean dishes, spicy jerk chicken and many made-to-order delicacies that are hard to find elsewhere. Rondon, a thick, coconut stew flavored with meat or seafood, fresh vegetables and starches, must be ordered 24 hours in advance.
Typical Restaurant Cahuita
Promising the best Caribbean rice and beans on the planet, in addition to delicious rondons, coconut-infused main dishes and fried comfort food, this small restaurant is a local favorite. Don’t miss it on the road entering Cahuita, just after the bank and small shopping center.
Nightlife:
Beach House
Rent surfboards by day and party by night at this beachside hangout. Evening fare is light – think typical bar food – but the drinks are cold and the music festive. Thursday through Saturday evenings are best, when live calypso musicians visit.
Coco’s Bar
Arguably Cahuita’s most famous and popular nightspot, Coco’s embodies Caribbean life: reggae beats play all night long, ice-cold rum concoctions are the bartender’s specialty and some evenings offer karaoke festivities that will coax a smile from just about anyone.
Ricky’s Bar
A small dance floor and outdoor seating makes this one of the more refined Cahuita nightspots. Live musicians often take the stage on Wednesday and Saturday nights, so plan your evening outings accordingly.
