Places to Stay in Tortuguero

A handful of colorful river and seaside cabins as well as family-run hotels can be found in Tortuguero village. Most cater to budget and mid-range travelers and offer rustic yet comfortable accommodations. A couple of B&B’s feature a slightly more upscale option, and come complete with hearty breakfasts and private balconies with hammocks. Camping is also available at Tortuguero National Park’s Cuatro Esquinas Ranger Station, just a few blocks south of Tortuguero village.

Travelers in search of all-inclusive lodging have many choices north of the village and throughout the extensive canal system. All lodges have single and multi-day packages – the 3-day/2-night package is the most popular – that include transportation to/from San Jose, buffet meals, lodging and guided tours. Hotels and lodges accept walk-ins, but rooms fill up quickly in the high season (December-April). Reservations are also recommended if visiting Tortuguero during the peak turtle nesting months of July and August.
