Last night, Kim and I took the evening bus from Liberia to San Jose and spent the night with a friend. This was designed to break up the long trip ahead of us to Bocas del Toro, the picturesque chain of Panamanian islands. We traveled by bus from the Pacific to the southern Caribbean coast in just under nine hours. Our destinations were Bocas del Toro, Panama and Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. I had heard that both of these locations are big party towns, but truly had no idea what to expect. As a PADI certified advanced diver, I was looking forward to diving the Caribbean’s crystal clear waters – and to earning my Rescue Diver status, the next rung on the scuba certification ladder.

Some activities are better when enjoyed with a friend, and a five-hour sunset cruise with Blue Dolphin Sailing is definitely one of them. My friend Kim joined me for an afternoon of snorkeling, kayaking and libations from a catamaran hammock.
