Just 73 miles southwest of San Jose, it is easy to see why this Central Pacific beach town is popular with Ticos and travelers alike – accessibility. The road between Brasilito and Playa Flamingo is an easy four-mile stretch of alternating gravel and pavement. As I neared the rocky peninsula that juts out from Flamingo’s shores, I spotted several dozen fishing and diving boats moored in the harbor.

We ate breakfast on the dock overlooking calm waters and blue skies. Just six weeks earlier, Vincent and I had paid our dues fishing some fierce seas off Quepos.
