While Tamarindo may be the surf capital of Costa Rica, Jaco certainly ranks a near second – and with such close proximity to San Jose, it reigns supreme as the Central Pacific’s hottest party scene.
I wasn’t sure if my nine-day exposure to Jaco’s booming nightlife would be too much, but I found that its vibrant atmosphere attracts exceptionally fun-loving people from the world over. And if so inclined, it is just as easy to completely ignore the late night activity altogether, and opt for a quiet stay.

Our host, Barry, had prepared a special breakfast for us this morning: wheat tortillas piled high with eggs, seasoned rice, shredded cheese, and salsa. Fresh fruits, bread, and homemade spreads decorated the tabletop, and we dug in with gusto.
Fabian and I had a snorkeling and sunset cruise that afternoon, so we spent the morning at Villa Alegre’s ocean-view infinity pool. Fabian jumped in for a swim and I settled down in a lounge chair to read. Suddenly, a noise caught my attention and I looked up – howler monkeys!

Some people bring good weather when they travel, and others don’t. Take my mother for instance, wherever she ventures, it almost always rains. When I travel, on the other hand, lady luck is with me.
