I woke up with the chickens today, ready for my visit to the Venado Caverns. Arenal and La Fortuna

Arenal is the adventure capital of Costa Rica, and some even say of the world. On the menu for my week-long travels: hiking to Rio Celeste, spelunking at Venado Caverns, becoming a human projectile on Arenal Bungee’s catapult, whitewater rafting on the Balsa River, lava-watching at Arenal Volcano, soaking in volcanic hot springs, and so much more. Day 13: Afraid of the Dark

This morning we were going to explore Piedras Blancas National Park and do a waterfall hike. Our guide, a botanist named Eric, specialized in arboreal studies as well as medicinal plants. His goal today would be to show us how useful the rainforest can be to modern society.
