Today’s dive to Punta Mona, reputedly one of the most beautiful and isolated dive sites in the Southern Caribbean, had been canceled due to another bout of unseasonal rains.

We traveled by bus from the Pacific to the southern Caribbean coast in just under nine hours. Our destinations were Bocas del Toro, Panama and Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. After all the sun and physical activity from these last few days, I was in need of some all-inclusive relaxation at Playa Flamingo. Buses depart Playa del Coco hourly for Liberia, and I arrived a few minutes late as the vehicle was pulling away. Thankfully, the bus driver took pity on me – the clueless foreigner running with heavy luggage – and stopped to let me on.
