I was in Costa Rica in 2008. Traveling around the country by ourselfs. What a heaven! We both said we want to live here! Pura Vida! Dove near Playa Conchal and Playa Flamingo.
Understandable this is not as Red Sea or Caribbian but still good dives! We saw whales from distance. Excelllent blog though. wil be back following.
Thank you.

You can eat them, but it is not very common. The most common fish you'll find at a restaurant are mahi mahi, snapper, sea bass, and tuna. Sidenote: much like we don't eat animals with cute faces and personalities, Costa Ricans tend not to eat beautiful tropical fish - even those that are perfectly edible. Jacks are not that beautiful individually, but are breathtaking in large schools.

Interesting, I have never heard of Jack fish. Are they a common local cuisine as well?

This blog is so great! It really made me feel as if I were there every step of the way. Unfortunately I wasn't — though I do no envy you sleeping at the Poor man's Paradise villa with not even a fan! — but the writing here is exceptionally well done and made me eager to visit this exceptional place. Keep up the good work! I'll have to get down to Osa at some point before I die, it seems. :)
