Oh man, I made the mistake of admitting my riding experience in Rincon de la Vieja, and they gave me this super stubborn horse that was not meant for trail riding. We had quite a few (admittedly one-sided) arguments that day, until I fell off. Then I really got mad, and decided to take control. She still fought me at every turn. Though I didn't fall off again, I can't say I was that successful -- I was secretly very happy that it had started to rain, and a van would therefore take us back to the lodge after our hike!

Hi! So happy to find up-to-date info on Costa Rica! We are staying in Montezuma April 6- 15th at Cabinas Playas Las Manchas. We had reserved there, especially because of the lengthy description of their well loved horses, on their website. I then tried to reserve the horses for their popular moon light beach ride and was told that didn’t have horses anymore. So, I looked up Montezuma Horses, and a selection of horse tours through Zuma Tours came up. The man at Zuma says that the only horses available currently, are at Nature Lodge and reserved for their guests.
I am hoping that the ride that you write about is available. I am also, the designated “best rider” in our group, and I can relate to your experience on Bear so well! I am hoping that you can tell me how to contact Melvin, and that perhaps he can hook up our party of 4, with horses during our stay.
Thank you so much for any current (!) information !
