North Pacific Weather Region
Weather - Regional Weather Summaries

The North Pacific Weather Region includes the Guanacaste Province, including Liberia and Tilarán, the cities of Orotina and San Mateo from the Alajuela Province and the northern part of the Province of Puntarenas from the river mouth of the Tárcoles River, north.  Also included in this region are: Playa del Coco, Playa Flamingo, Tamarindo, Nosara, Sámara, Mal País, Montezuma and Puntarenas (city).

The average annual temperature in this climatic zone is 28°C (82°F), with the warmest month being April when temperatures can reach 38°C (100°F).  The rest of the year, daytime temperatures average 33°C (91°F).  The coolest nights are found between November and March, going down to an average of 19°C (66°F).

The rainy season here is clearly defined between the months of May through October, with the rainiest months being June, September and October. July tends to be the least rainy of the wet months here too, known as a “veranillo” (little dry season). The rainy season has the highest relative humidity (between 80 and 85%) when compared to the rest of the year (only 60 to 65% humidity in the dry season).  Winds tend to be calm (less than 4km/h) during the rainy season.  Despite all this rain there is still an average 6 hours of sun per day during the rainy season.

November through April are the dry months, receiving almost no rain from December until March.  During the dry season and the el veranillo, winds tend to be predominately NE and max out at 12km/h (7.5mph).  Daytime temperatures hover around 31°-36°C (89°-96°F) with an average of 10 hours of sunshine!
