Water Activities

With easy access to two oceans, several lakes, and many rivers and wetlands, there are plenty of activities that involve the water. From kayaking through mangrove swamps crowded with tropical birds and mammals to surfing hot spots like Pavones on the south Pacific, the warm waters enveloping much of Costa Rica can bring excitement or serenity - whichever you seek. Dolphin & Whale Watching, sport fishing, soaking in natural hot springs and whitewater rafting & tubing are all available.

Some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world can be found at Costa Rica's Coco Island. Caño Island is another hot spot for diving where rock formations and reefs are surrounded by clear waters and a plethora of marine life. The recently rejuvenated coral reefs (by a major earthquake in the 1990's) in Cahuita and the reefs in Puerto Viejo offer multitudes of living coral species and tropical fish.
