You are required to pay an exit fee (departure tax) to leave Costa Rica by airplane only. Exit fees are waived when you leave Costa Rica by boat, ship, car, motorcycle, or bus.

$26.00 U.S.      All Other Nationalities     Indefinitely

* Exit fees are in U.S. dollars. Fees may be paid using Visa or Mastercard, or in cash with U.S. dollars or  Colones (Costa Rican currency) on your exit date.

When departing the country, first pay your departure tax at one of two locations at each end of the airport before checking in for your flight.
