An added benefit of the many active volcanoes dotting Costa Rica’s landscape are the natural thermal waters, or hot springs that they produce. What better way to end a long day of travel than soaking in the steamy waters of a nearby volcano. Set amid lushly-landscaped gardens, the hot springs at Tabacon Resort offer guests secluded pools, a swim-up bar and un-paralleled views of Volcan Arenal. Also popular in the Arenal area are the smaller Baldi Hot Springs and Eco-Termales, both ideal for visitors seeking a more intimate and relaxing environment.
Volcan Rincon de la Vieja in Guanacaste province is another option for those in search of hot springs. Several hotels near the slopes of the volcano offer horseback trips to natural thermal pools where soaks can be enjoyed in nature.
