Hiking
Things To Do - Land Activities

Most of Costa Rica's Parks and Reserves are best explored by hiking the vast network of trails that guide visitors thru a variety of forest types and ecosystems.  Coastal trails dip thru wetlands and along the coast like in Corcovado National Park and Cahuita National Park.   Mountainous trails in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Chirripó National Park ascend to sweeping lookouts, some above the tree line.  Many parks are home to primary forests where the size of the trees will humble you.

So bring along comfortable, light-weight hiking shoes, your binoculars and a camera, and get moving.  There is lots to see while traveling on foot in Costa Rica.

Note: If you really want to see a lot of wildlife while on the trail, hire a naturalist guide or join a tour.  You will walk by most animals if you do not have trained hawk-eyes like the Tico guides have.
