Yes, even below the earth’s surface, there is adventure to be found in Costa Rica. Places where stalactites hold tight to the ceiling and where stalagmites might reach the roof of the cave, and then when they join, columns are formed. These and other calcium formations are the hidden beauty of Costa Rica’s caves. The lowest point in Costa Rica is found in the Barra Honda National Park where the cave dips down to 240 meters below sea level in the Santa Ana cave. There are a few other caving locations in Costa Rica, namely the Venado Caves in Arenal and the caves of Ballena Marine National Park on the South Pacific. |
