For the adventurous, thrill-seeking tourist, there is bungee jumping
in Costa Rica. Costa Rica's bungee jumping hot spot, the Old Bridge
over the Colorado River ("viejo puente sobre el Rio Colorado), allows
you to plummet down a 265’ river gorge before springing back, yo-yo
style through the lush, Costa Rica style, tropical canyon.
This
old bridge, located just a ½ hour west of San José, offers a 200 foot
free-fall and a 30 foot bounce prior to being reeled back up to terra
firma. Several companies offer bundled packages that include one jump
and transportation to and from San José. Just board the “bungee bus”
in San José, JUMP, and be back in San José in time for lunch. Multiple
jumps are available for a discounted price and for those who just want
to come and watch their crazy friends jump, a small fare is charged to
cover transportation.
The Old Bridge has been closed to traffic
for years. It was originally chosen as the best spot for bungee
jumping in Costa Rica because of its height and scenic beauty. So if
jumping head first off a bridge while in the middle of tropical
paradise towards a churning, rocky river below sounds appealing, then
bungee jumping needs to be on your list of things to do here in Costa
Rica.
