Places To See - Volcanoes

Location: East of Liberia in the Miravalles Forest Reserve, Guanacaste Volcanic Mountain Range

Altitude: 2028 meters (6654 feet)

Miravalles has been sleeping for centuries, no explosions, no geysers or other good volcanic stuff, except for a small steam explosion in 1946. However, if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, you would find the trip worth taking. The road passes through beautiful country and offers super views of Lake Nicaragua.

The area around the volcano, the Miravalles Forest Reserve, is home to cloud and moist forests filled with rivers, waterfalls, hot springs and innumerable plant and animal species.  Costa Rica’s only geothermal power plant is at the foot of the Miravalles Volcano.
