Chato Volcano, known locally as Cerro Chato, is located southeast of Arenal Volcano. Chato has a 500 meter wide, lagoon-filled crater and is a popular day hike for travelers in the Arenal region. Chato's activity ended 3500 years ago and it is now considered a dormant volcano.

Chato can be accessed on a guided hike (a strenous 4 plus hour trek) with one of the many tour operators in Arenal / La Fortuna.
