About:

The Curú Refuge is a privately-owned reserve. When you get to the gate, pay the entrance fee and drive to the administration building for a map and information. It is not necessary to call ahead, but if you want to make reservations for an overnight stay or a guide, you may contact the reserve at 661-8236.

Activities:

Hiking, bird and wildlife viewing are popular. No camping is allowed.

 

Trails:

There are several trails varying in length and terrain leading through the seven ecosystems on the property. You can hire a guide for around $15 per day.


Flora & Fauna:

Flora: mangrove, deciduous and semi-deciduos forests in humid forest transitioning to tropical dry forest.

Fauna: armadillos, spider and white throated capuchin monkeys, deer, phantom crabs, scarlet macaws and more than 235 other species of birds.

Getting There:

Driving: Take the ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya from Puntarenas to Paquera. Drive south to Curu.
