Biological Reserves
Places To See - Parks, Reserves and Protected Areas

Many of Costa Rica's biological reserves are importat sites for tropical rain forest research.  They are also home to a wide array of rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.  Some specialize in neotropical ecology and are dedicated to improving natural resource management through innovative research projects and the results they provide.   Many biological reserves have research stations where students and volunteers help with the many ongoing projects.

Biological reserves account for 21.6 hectares (.42%) of the national territory.
