Snakes
There are venomous snakes in the Drake Bay area, but most lead reclusive lives.  A observant eye while hiking can help eliminate unintended encounters.


Plants
Several palms have very sharp spines.  Always look before you touch a plant. Do not walk barefoot.


Insects

Mosquitoes are not a big problem in the Drake Bay area. There are small biting flies and sand flies that occasionally can be annoying.  Bug repellent might make your stay a bit more comfortable.


Sun
Remember you are in the tropics and the sun is strong, even on cloudy days.  Sun screen should be applied before going out in the sun.


Ocean Safety
The coast in the Drake Bay area is rocky.  Swimming should be done with caution for hidden rocks and currents. Always ask your hotel for recommendations and advisories.
