Downtown JacoServices:

Jaco boasts all the amenities of a modern city, including widespread wireless internet. Gourmet restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, internet cafes, banks and a post office are located on Av. Pastor Diaz, Jaco’s main street.

Travelers can stock up on forgotten or misplaced items in one of the many boutiques or surf shops in town.

All pharmacies have English speaking staff and an on-site doctor or pharmacist who can prescribe most prescription medications.

Cell Phones
Local cell phones work in Jaco, however reception can be intermittent. Travelers can rent a cell phone in Costa Rica for use on their tripCentral Jaco

Public Phones
Several pay phones can be found along Jaco’s main street, and pre-paid phone cards are available in pharmacies or supermarkets. Internet cafes provide inexpensive phone service for international calls via internet.

Internet
Many restaurants, bars and hotels offer their patrons free wireless service. Additionally, visitors can pay around $2 an hour for high-speed connections at an internet cafe.

Laundry Service
Coin operated machines and drop-off service are available at Aquamatic and Lavanderia Puro Blanco, located on the main street on the southern end of town.

Mail/Faxes
The post office, located on the southern end of town, is open Monday through Saturday. Both DHL and UPS have offices in Jaco and provide expedited shipping. Most hotels are happy to send/receive local and international faxes.

Facilities:

Banks
Cash travelers checks or exchange money at Banco Nacional, Banco Interfin, Banco de San Jose or Banco Costa Rica. Each has an ATM for cash withdrawals.

Gas Stations
Several full-service gas stations, some open 24 hours, line the Costanera Highway, where travelers can gas up on their way into or out of town.Surf Shop

Medical Facilities
The closest major hospital is located in Puntarenas, less than an hour drive away. The Red Cross (Tel. 643-3090) provides care for minor injuries. Several private clinics including Emergencias 2000 (Tel. 380-4125) offer emergency care and have bilingual staff.  For all major emergencies, dial 911.

Police Station
There are two police stations, one in Garabito and another on Jaco’s beachfront, next to Hotel Balcon del Mar. Telephone 643-3011, or dial 117.
