A modest selection of mid-range hotels and B & B’s are available in Atenas. For those in search of upscale accommodations, a couple of hotels on the outskirts of town are excellent options.
Hotel Colinas del Sol
All rooms have kitchenettes, terraces and access to a pool. Set in a quiet area, two kilometers south of central park, Colinas del Sol is a 15 minute walk to town. $50 per double room.
B & B Ana’s Place
Centrally located in town, on the road behind the Catholic Church near the river, Ana’s Place has pleasant rooms and apartments with kitchens set amid a landscaped garden. Rates are $45-70 including full breakfast. Pool and laundry services are available. Close to restaurants, shops and internet cafes.
Finca Huetares
Located in Barrio Los Angeles, about two kilometers outside of town, Finca Huetares offers rooms, cabinas and apartments for short or long-term stays. Amenities include a pool, landscaped gardens, a tennis court and restaurant. Pet friendly. Rates range from $50-75 per night.
Hotel Vista Atenas
Perched high in a quiet location three kilometers west of Atenas on the road to Jacó, Hotel Vista Atenas offers simple rooms or cabins with kitchens for $50-65. A pool, restaurant and bar are onsite.
Apartamentos Atenas
Colorful bungalows with hammocks and fully-equipped kitchens are suitable for two to four people. A rancho-style restaurant and pool are onsite. Double rooms are $40; long-term rates are available. Also organizes local horse back trips and other tours. Located a few kilometers west of Atenas along the road to Jaco.
El Cafetal Inn
A 15 minute drive from the center of Atenas, El Cafetal Inn has a range of artsy rooms, many with views of their own coffee plantation and the Central Valley. The inn has a relaxing atmosphere and is located in Santa Eulalia de Atenas. The hotel arranges several tours and produces its own coffee. Amenities include several outdoor patios, a pool and restaurant. Rates vary from $75-120 and include breakfast.
El Martino Resort and Spa (La Garita)
For a bit of Greco-Roman inspired four-star luxury, El Martino Resort fits the bill. Rooms have satellite TV, 24-hour room service, terraces and high-speed internet. The resort boasts a casino, full-service fitness center and spa. Located across from Zoo Ave in La Garita, about 16 kilometers east of Atenas. Room and villa rates range from $140-$225.
