Hot Spots:

• The “Rock Pile” — great for sunset views

• The Point — the place to watch surfers at the mouth of the Rio   Claro

• Tiskita Private Reserve

• Lookout tower at Castillo de Pavones (Widow’s Peak)

Beaches:

The rocky shore that borders the Pavones area is irregular and full of nooks and small beaches, each separated by a rocky outcropping or a bend in the shoreline. There is little development along the coast, preserving the natural beauty of the area. Pavones has several sandy beaches perfect for swimming and surfing but visitors should note that hidden rocks and unpredictable currents are common. Tidal pools at low tide make for interesting beach walks.  There is a dirt road that parallels the shore where visitors can park along the way and walk down to the beach.

Rivers:

The Rio Claro is a popular swimming location as there are no crocodiles and currents are usually safe.  The water is clean and refreshing and good hiking opportunities are located upstream from the river mouth.

Waterfalls:

Punto Banco Waterfall
As you drive over the bridge to Punto Banco, there is a swimming hole and small waterfall to the left. Other waterfalls can be visited as part of horseback riding trips and during excursions into the Guaymi Indian Reservation.

Gardens:

Orchid Garden: Accessible by boat
