Hot Spots:
Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, Maxis Bar/Restaurant
Beaches:
The
white sand beaches and lack of development make Manzanillo a tranquil
village to visit. Beaches are usually uncrowded and are lined with
palm trees, offering shade from the heat of the day. Currents can be
good for swimming and snorkeling.
The second of two living coral reefs in the south Caribbean are found off-shore and some may be reached without a boat.
Manzanillo's
beaches and those that extend toward Monkey Point are protected and
serve as nesting grounds for four species of marine turtle.
The
beach located just before your enter the town of Manzanillo is filled
with picnic tables and palm trees. Sundays are popular with the locals
for picnicking as are holidays. Costa Ricans come from all over the
country to relax here for Christmas and Easter.
Most of Manzanillo's beaches are Ecological Blue Flag recipients.
