Destinations - Cities and Towns

San Jose is home to several city parks.  Some have more dense vegetation than others, but all have benches and offer some shade from the heat of the day.  Park benches are popular with Ticos as they enjoy sitting and relaxing while reading the newspaper or sharing some quality time with loved ones.  Plus, they are a great place to sit and people watch.  It is not uncommon to see couples kissing and lazing about together in the parks.

Parque Central (Central Park)

In front of the Metropolitan Catedral at Avenida Central and Calle Central, artists and street vendors regularly visit this park. You can get your shoes shined or sit and chat with retirees.

Parque del Este (Eastern Park)

2 km east of El Cristo, in San Pedro, this is the place for outdoor activities like jogging, basketball, soccer, swimming, volleyball and camping.

Cariari Country Club

The country club includes an 18-hole golf course. See Golfing

Amusement Park:

Parque Nacional de Diversiones

Costa Rica’s only amusement park is located in La Uruca, 2km west of the Hospital Mexico.

The 44.2 acre park offers over 80 different games and attractions. There’s something for everyone. Smaller children can take a ride on a real Costa Rican oxcart, glide through a replica of Tortuguero Canals, travel back in time to Pueblo Antiguo or enjoy the water slides, electric train, go-karts or miniature antique car replicas.

Older children and adults can enjoy rides with a little more zing, like the Cyclone, the Hurricane and the Skymaster. All proceeds benefit the state children’s hospital.
