Air:
There is an airport between Samara and Carillo, where daily flights via Nature Air and SANSA arrive from San Jose. Flights last 40 minutes.
Bus:
Buses leave from San Jose daily at 12:30 p.m. from Calle 14, Ave. 5, and return at 4 p.m. The bus journey takes about five hours. Several daily buses also depart from the town of Nicoya.
Car:
From San Jose, follow route 1 north. Turn left onto route 21 (towards Nicoya and the Tempisque River Bridge). Turn left onto route 18 following signs to Nicoya (there is a Shell gas station here). Follow signs to Samara. The road is paved the entire way, but there are some pot-holed sections as you near Samara. Roughly four and a half hours by car from San Jose and two hours by car from the Liberia airport. See our more detailed driving directions...
