Many people rent bikes and scooters to travel the 15 kilometer dirt road from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo to spend the day.
Air:The Limon airport is the closest landing strip to the Puerto Viejo area. Nature Air offers daily flights to Limon during the high season (December 1st through April 20th). The flight is approximately 40 minutes long and costs $140.00 round trip.
Bus:Buses leave from the Gran Terminal del Caribe in San Jose (Calle Central/Avenidas 11 and 13) daily at 12 noon for Manzanillo and return from Manzanillo at 7 p.m. (Its a four and a half hour trip) Buses also leave for Limon from the Gran Terminal every day, every hour from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. (return schedule is the same). Buses heading also to Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Bribri and Sixaola leave at 6 a.m., 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Buses leave from Limon (from infront of the Radio Casino) for Manzanillo at 6 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and return from Manzanillo to Limon at 5 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Also, from Limon, buses leave for Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Bribri and Sixaola about every hour from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., with the last bus returning from Puerto Viejo to Limon at 7:30 p.m.
