Air:

Visitors may fly into one of several airports.

Golfito Airport
Convenient because rental cars are available in Golfito. Visitors may then drive the remaining 2 hours to Pavones. A public bus also runs twice daily from Golfito to Pavones.


Puerto Jimenez Airport
From here, the options are to take the ferry to Golfito and be picked up by your hotel, or  to rent a car in Puerto Jimenez and drive to Pavones.

Visitors may also fly into a private airstrip located at Tiskita Jungle Lodge.





Land:

Car
The trip to the Pavones area takes about 8 hours from San Jose.  It is mostly along well-maintained paved roads, but the last two hours areFerry Across River along a dirt road.  Conditions depend on how recently the road was graded and how much it has been raining.  Four-wheel drive is not usually needed. There is one river to cross, the Rio Coto, where a ferry operates from 5a.m. to 10 p.m. The cost is ¢500 ($1).  For visitors arriving either before or after regular ferry hours, simply honk the horn twice and flash your headlights.  Someone will come out and ferry you across.

Bus
Buses to Pavones depart Golfito daily at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The trip lasts three hours and costs roughly $1.20 each way.

Taxi
A 4WD taxi costs between $40 and $50 from Pasoa Canaos or Golfito to Pavones.


Water:

Hotels and tour companies will often include pick-up in Puerto Jimenez or Golfito for the ride across the Golfo Dulce to Pavones.The Sweet Gulf
