Central JacoThere are several options for getting around town. Many visitors rent a car in San Jose or Jaco to explore the area’s surrounding beaches.

An alternative is to rent a motorcycle or scooter by the day or week. The majority of Jaco tour operators offer roundtrip transportation to local attractions.

Jaco on Foot:

Jaco beach is cosmopolitan by most standards with on-going construction everywhere you look. It is also an easy place to explore without a car. Paved sidewalks line Avenida Pastor Diaz, Jaco’s main street that parallels the beach. With many cafes and shops close to the shore, the center of town is convenient for tourists to wander in for a bite to eat or to do some shopping while in their bathing suits. Shopping plazas, pharmacies, banks and restaurants are all within walking distance of most Jaco hotels and cabinas.

Bikes, Motorcycles & Scooters:

Bicycles, motorcycles and scooters can be rented in town. Some Downtown Jaco hotels provide free use of mountain bikes to their guests, or visitors can rent a beachcomber for around $7-$10 per day.  Motorbikes and scooters usually rent for $35-$50 a day, and a valid driver’s license is required.

Car Rental:

There are several car rental offices in Jaco including: Budget, Payless, National, Economy and Alamo. Green season (May through November) rates are much lower than dry season fees, and advance reservations are highly recommended for travel during the high season or over holidays.

Taxi:

For those without a rental car, there are plenty of taxis on hand. A taxi ride from Jaco to Playa Hermosa typically costs around $5. All official taxis are red and come equipped with a meter. It’s always better to negotiate a fare beforehand for any long distance trips.

Jaco Taxi Reservation: 506-2-643-2020 or 506-2-643-1919

Downtown JacoPublic Bus:

Bus service runs daily between Jaco and major destinations such as San Jose, Puntarenas and Quepos, however it isn’t convenient for local sightseeing around the Jaco area.
