The capital of San Jose offers visitors both cultural and historical attractions while wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy turtle-watching in the Caribbean town of Tortuguero.

Fluctuating altitude and a varying proximity to the ocean lays the groundwork for many different ecosystems. The climate and scenery can change within just a few hours of driving.
